THE LATCH STRING ALWAYS HANGS OUT

We have enjoyed another Congress of the Daughters ox the American Revolution, and have added to that the pleasure of attending the Congress of the Sons of the American Revolution in Buffalo, N. Y.

Many of the members of both organizations are subscribers to “Early Settlers,” and meeting these folks is a genuine pleasure. Our subscription list is small, and we think of our subscribers as friends, as workers with us in one family interested in the ideals and lives of our pioneer ancestors.

We have just received a letter from a California subscriber, whom we have enjoyed by way of the mail. He wrote that he had returned from an eastern trip, during wThich he had planned to meet us. Because it was rain- ing so hard, he did not want to leave the main rGad to go to Akron, and we missed seeing him.

Akron is only our post-office address, we do not live there.

OUR HOME IS ON ROUTE 5, THE MAIN HIGHWAY ACROSS NEW YORK STATE FROM ALBANY TO BUFFALO, TWENTY FIVE MILES EAST OF BUFFALO. FIFTEEN MILES WEST OF BATAVIA.

THE INDEX

The many letters of encouragement received from those who had placed orders for the index, and who were willing to pay the increased price neces- sary for publication, have enabled us to continue the work of compiling the index.

The price of an INDEX for the first three years of “Early Settlers” is five dollars, and will not be increased for any orders placed now.

We know of no other means of quick reference to so many names of pioneers, as may be found in this New York State directory. If you do hot know where your ancestors lived, it is well to look in New York A ate.

Our advice to you You must not lose this opportunity of buying a book, so valuable, so helpful. The edition will be limited, therefore place your order in time to be sure that a copy is printed for you.

WILL YOU DO THIS?

Do you care sufficiently about your ancestors and your country to feel that this work of digging for ancestors, and preserving their records, is worthwhile? Then help to continue the work

SEND US THE NAMES AND ADDRESSES OF PERSONS, WHO ARE INTERESTED IN NEW YORK STATE RECORDS.

We will send a sample copy of “Early Settlers” to each address, and hope thereby to gain a subscriber.

Do you care? Will you do it now?

SPECIAL SEARCHING FOR YOUR FAMILY

Do you need special searching to complete your records?

We are constantly searching in all parts of the State, and at any time we may be just where your record could be found.

Our fee is moderate. Write us your problem.

Janet Wethy Foley, Akron, N. Y.

pise you a real welcome.

EARLY SETTLERS 5

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, ALBANY, ALBANY COUNTY, N. Y.

(Continued)

Baptisms were recorded, beginning in the year 1785, but from 1791 to 1798 the “Regular Register” was kept irregularly, and records are taken from notes left by the ministers.

The names of parents are followed by the names of the children, and dates of birth, except where ‘B’ indicates date of baptism. In the very early days, occupations of fathers were recorded.

What appear to be discrepancies are copied just as the records were made, and rnanv variations in spelling will be found.
